Final Fantasy VI Advance includes additional gameplay features and enhanced visuals, and a newly-translated script that follows Japanese naming conventions for the spells and monsters. The FMV's from the PlayStation release were not included. Four new espers were introduced, Leviathan, Gilgamesh, Cactuar, and Diabolos, and a new dungeon called the Dragon's Den (which includes the Kaiser Dragon, which was coded but not included in the original) and a Soul Shrine, a place where the player can fight monsters continuously. Three new spells also appear: Flood, Valor, and Gravija, and several bugs from the original (such as the Vanish/Doom glitch and the Evade Bug) are fixed. Like the other Final Fantasy remakes for Game Boy Advance, a bestiary and a music player are included. The package features new artwork from Yoshitaka Amano.
While most edits from the original release are still present, and while a scene involving Celes being punched by a soldier was removed entirely, many of the edited and mature themes prevalent in the game's dialogue have been expressed more clearly.
